Happy Mother's Day

Reagan on Mother's Day  quotes the 'Gipper' from May 7, 1983 when he said so eloquently and succinctly everything that needs to be said about the indispensable, historic and wonderful roles played by our mothers, grandmothers and great-grandmothers in our nation's history:

"The mothers we honor this weekend, young or not so young, partners or alone, well-to-do or sometimes agonizingly poor, are as diverse as our varied population. But they share a commitment to future generations and a yearning to improve the world their children will inherit. They shape the America we know today and are now molding the character of our country tomorrow.

Since men seem to have written most of our history books, the role of women and mothers in our communities and families has not always been given its due. But the truth is the wild west could never have been tamed, the vast prairies never plowed, nor God and learning brought to the corners of our continent without the strength, bravery, and influence of our grandmothers, great-grandmothers, and the women who came before them."

Summing Up

Happy Mother's Day to my 'better half' as well as to all of the other 'better halves' in our wonderful world.

And while we're at it, let's wish a Happy Mother's Day to all the grandmothers and great-grandmothers (including remembering all those no longer with us) as well.

In my case, Joyce is by far and away the better half of our almost fifty year partnership (we married July 3, 1966), and is the reason we have been blessed to watch our four children grow into both responsible adults and good friends. Now Grandma and I are fully enjoying the time we get to spend with our six wonderful grandkids.

So let's do everything possible to celebrate and enjoy this very special 'Mom's' day with the ladies who make our lives so meaningful, fulfilling, fun and even easy (at least at most times)!

That's my plan.

Thanks. Bob.

  2. Bob, very much enjoyed both Sat and Sun Blog. Sid directed me to it, and it couldn't have been more special to me. I thank you for our past President Reagan's quotes which were always so eloquent unlike today's quotes which make me cringe. So happy too that Chad heard that. Your honor to (your own) mothers, grandmothers and great-grandmothers and those out there now is also appreciated. It all comes down to respect and family tradition. It truly starts in the home, and children live what they learn. That night in the gym was "Special" not only for their friendship but also for their respect for each other. Thank you for your time and effort you put into your blogs..they are also meaningful and fulfilling to us. My own Mother's Day was "Special" thanks to your words! Kay
